What was Comcast before Comcast?
Here’s some history: In the 1960s, a company called American Cable Systems formed and quickly became Comcast Holdings. It eventually developed a large customer base, providing cable service to hundreds of millions of customers across the United States.
What is Comcast?
In the early 1990s, Comcast Email pioneered internet service, eventually capturing 40% of the U.S. broadband market. So far, Comcast has focused primarily on sports programming, special content and Olympic content.
What is Xfinity?
When the Winter Olympics were held in 2010, Comcast was NBC’s newest broadcaster. Because Comcast Email is primarily known as a television and internet service provider (ISP), marketers have found it daunting to continue adding services and products to a product that once targeted a small audience.
The solution is Xfinity: Consumer Internet and TV.
Comcast Email remains the parent company of the original telecommunications company, which was renamed Xfinity. Comcast High Speed Internet became Xfinity Internet, Comcast TV became Xfinity TV. Some companies and businesses still have the Comcast name, but Xfinity is the phone brand the average person sees today.
Is Xfinity the same as Comcast?
At its core, Xfinity and Comcast are the same. Comcast is its parent company, and Xfinity is Comcast’s brand for television, internet and home telephone services.
Did Xfinity buy Comcast?
Neither Xfinity nor Comcast bought the others. Xfinity was founded by Comcast in 2010, unfortunately to avoid confusion with the expansion of the Comcast brand. Why is this wrong? Given that you’re reading this here, it sounds like Xfinity didn’t really do what it should have done.

Did the new name for Comcast Telecom Services work like XFINITY?
There’s still an annoying amount of cross-branding (like the “Comcast Xfinity” reference you’ll see from time to time), and most people don’t seem to know the difference between the two.
Despite the fact that it’s been over a decade, and things are generally slow, there was initial controversy over the new title. There were several reasons for this. At first, it didn’t work very well. It then seems to confuse the user instead of clarifying the issue.
Second, Comcast contemplated rebranding in an effort to move away from the negative image associated with the Comcast brand. Comcast is notorious for terrible customer service. In fact, a thriving Internet community has developed around the phrase “Comcast Sucks.”
Rumors that Comcast created Xfinity to shut down bad broadcasts have never been verified, and the company has promised to improve customer service across the country.
It certainly seems to be working, because despite its reputation, Xfinity continues to improve our customer satisfaction tests. It ranks well in most categories and ranks first in terms of user experience .
Good job on that front at least, Xfinity.

Mission
Comcast’s mission is to combine data and technology, and drive innovation to create the world’s best entertainment and online experiences.
Business segments
Comcast Email is a global media and technology company with two major subsidiaries: Comcast Cable and NBCUniversal. Comcast Cable is described as a single business line, called cable communications, while NBC Universal has four definable business lines: cable networks, television broadcasting, motion picture entertainment and theme parks.
History
In 1963, Ralph J. Roberts and his brother Joe sold their shares in Pioneer Industries, a menswear manufacturer in Philadelphia. The two wanted to create a new venture and were surprised to learn that American Cable Systems (ACS), a small company based in Tupelo, Mississippi, was being sold by Jerrold Electronics. They evaluated the company with professional accountant Julian Brodsky and Jerold’s former systems manager Daniel Aaron. The four concluded that the company showed a promising opportunity despite having five channels and only 1,500 customers.
Business was slow in town, so in 1964 he moved to East MS. Further sales were then made to Okolona and Baldwin in 1965. The number of employees increased, but they could not afford the cost of establishing the system at both locations. Over the decades, team members expanded to Pennsylvania and Florida. In 1969, they decided they wanted a name that reflected the technology hub, so they used the words “communications” and “music” to form Comcast Corporation. They also reunited businesses in Pennsylvania.
The country continued to expand from Michigan to Kentucky. The company grew its customer base to 40,000, but was still vulnerable. In 1972, Roberts officially took Comcast public to raise money for future expansion. The move was successful and eventually paid off. In 1998, it underwent its first transformation by acquiring American Cellular Networks, a mobile company operating in New Jersey. The next big step came in 1996, when Comcast acquired its stake in At Home Corporation to launch the @Home Network – an unlimited 24-hour internet access modem. Cable to… Comcast’s three games (cable, telecom and internet) were born.
